The Gift of Prayer

I have been thinking about this powerful gift that the Lord has given us. I think it's pretty amazing how we have this gift. I think of all the gifts Heavenly Father has given us, this is the one that I couldn't do without. The realization that someone is actually listening to me when I'm praying is a great comfort. I also have felt a great comfort in how He is listening to others when I cannot help in any way. It is our communication to God. A way to check in every morning and night. A way to repent. A way to give gratitude for all that He gives us. A way to ask for things that we need, like answers. So many gifts come because Heavenly Father has given us this chance to communicate with Him.

I've been reading the words of Jesus in the scriptures. I have read over and over again these verses. It is in 3 Nephi 18: 18-21:

18 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always lest ye enter into temptation; for Satan desireth to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.

19 Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name;

20 And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall receive, behold it shall be given unto you.

21 Pray in your families unto the Father, always in my name, that your wives and your children may be blessed.

Satan does not want us to pray. He knows the power of prayer. He knows that when you plead with Heavenly Father, you feel the Spirit. Satan doesn't give you that peaceful feeling. I know that prayer gives great comfort. Heavenly Father wants to hear from his children.

This last semester while Dallon was so busy and we were very confused about many things, I learned a valuable lesson of relying on the Lord more and using the power of prayer. I felt the spirit in my life more as I prayed more sincerely. I have always had a very strong testimony that our Heavenly Father is there listening to our prayers, that He cares for us and answers our prayers. We are His children and He loves us.

He Has A Plan

The pandemic of COVID-19 has wreaked havoc all over the world. My family is starting the fourth week since the state government put in force a Stay-At-Home order. We can only leave our homes if we have an "essential" job, if we need to buy essential items/food, or if we need to take care of someone. My five kids have gotten into a routine of waking up, doing school work, seminary work, reading, then free time. My husband is working from home and has multiple virtual calls throughout the day. It was a lot to get used to. Compared to many others, these changes have not been that hard on our family. Actually, most of the time I really enjoy everyone home. When they aren't using their limited electronic time, they have used their imaginations to think of creative things to do. Yes, I had to take one son to the ER last week because he fell and got a concussion, but we are truly very blessed. I know there are many that are suffering through this pandemic for many reasons. Prayer is Powerful

"When I pray with faith, I have the Savior as my advocate with the Father and I can feel that my prayer reaches heaven. Answers come. Blessings are received. There is peace and joy even in hard times." by President Henry B. Eyring

Realization

A little seed was planted in my heart when I was a teenager going to seminary. I decided during the year we were learning about the Book of Mormon that I wanted to know for myself if it was true. When I prayed about it, nothing spectacular happened, but I felt a unique feeling of peace that I hadn't felt before. Now that it's been over 20 years later, I can say that every time I've read the Book of Mormon, that belief that it is true has become stronger and stronger. This year I decided to get a special Book of Mormon that has space to write on each page. I set a goal to take the time to ponder what I have read and write down what I understand, or what the Spirit tells me. I have read this book many times and have learned a lot already, but this time has felt so different. I have been able to understand so much more. There are days when I want to hurry and read the next chapter to catch up and not take the extra time to ponder and write, but I have made myself do it anyways...
