A Noteworthy Quote

"But make no mistake about it, brothers and sisters, in the months and years ahead, events are likely to require each member to decide whether or not he will follow the First Presidency. Members will find it more difficult to halt longer between two opinions.(see 1 kings 18:21) President Marion G. Romney said, many years ago, that he had 'never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional or political life.'

"This is hard doctrine, but it is particularly vital doctrine in a society which is becoming more wicked. In short, brothers and sisters, not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ includes not being ashamed of the prophets of Jesus Christ. . . . Your discipleship may see the time when such religious convictions are discounted. . . . This new irreligious imperialism seeks to disallow certain opinions simply because those opinions grow out of religious convictions.

"Resistance to abortion will be seen as primitive. Concern over the institution of the family will be viewed as untrendy and unenlightened.... Before the ultimate victory of the forces of righteousness, some skirmishes will be lost. Even in these, however, let us leave a record so that the choices are clear, letting others do as they will in the face of prophetic counsel. There will also be times, happily, when a minor defeat seems probable, but others will step forward, having been rallied to rightness by what we do. We will know the joy, on occasion, of having awakened a slumbering majority of the decent people of all races and creeds which was, till then, unconscious of itself. Jesus said that when the fig trees put forth their leaves,'summer is nigh.' Thus warned that summer is upon us, let us not then complain of the heat."--- Elder Neal A. Maxwell

It wasn't easy to see what the apostles and prophets were saying about our future. It is becoming more clear with things that are occurring in the world. One thing I thought about was when the First Presidency put out the Proclamation to the World,  it said that "marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God" and I always thought, of course it is. Well now that statement is questioned and people are divided in what they believe. It is interesting how people can easily be divided. The Lord knows what will happen and he prepares us. How comforting that is.

Here is the source for this quote. It's amazing how much this applies right now. We have been warned and are seeing things happen.

Michelle, you have no idea how much I have thought about these things the last few months. I won't lie and say it wasn't a test for me. It was a HARD thing to do, but I'm glad I stood on the right side of things. It's not easy seeing my church and my beliefs so trashed and belittled on the news, but I'm proud that as a religion we stood up for what we believed in even though it was not politically correct.
We had that read to us yesterday and wow does it apply right now!

This was written by Elder Neal A. Maxwell to BYU students back in 1978. That was 30 years ago!

That is an incredible quote, thank you so much for sharing it. I found it very relevant with what is going on in our world today. It is so important that we follow the counsel of the leaders of the church.

Leadership Meeting

I was lucky to be able to attend a leadership meeting yesterday (December 2, 2023) Flagstaff with Elder Steven D. Shumway, Elder Michael A. Dunn, and Elder D. Todd Christofferson. Life has been pretty darn hard this year. I have felt very low this week. The hour and a half drive was worth it if I could get even a small moment of peace. Of course, I heard so much that I needed to hear. Things I needed to be reminded, and things that I needed to learn.  This list of things that stood out to me probably wouldn't help anyone else. I know that I learn best when I can write what I have learned and get a better understanding from it. I am very forgetful and have a hard time reiterating what others have said. I understand things in my mind, but when I express that understanding to someone else, I have a hard time knowing what words to use. So this is my way of trying to get through it. Ok, so Elder D. Todd Christofferson talked about how the Atonement of Jesus Christ is what makes the whol...

Realization

A little seed was planted in my heart when I was a teenager going to seminary. I decided during the year we were learning about the Book of Mormon that I wanted to know for myself if it was true. When I prayed about it, nothing spectacular happened, but I felt a unique feeling of peace that I hadn't felt before. Now that it's been over 20 years later, I can say that every time I've read the Book of Mormon, that belief that it is true has become stronger and stronger. This year I decided to get a special Book of Mormon that has space to write on each page. I set a goal to take the time to ponder what I have read and write down what I understand, or what the Spirit tells me. I have read this book many times and have learned a lot already, but this time has felt so different. I have been able to understand so much more. There are days when I want to hurry and read the next chapter to catch up and not take the extra time to ponder and write, but I have made myself do it anyways...

Prayer is Powerful

"When I pray with faith, I have the Savior as my advocate with the Father and I can feel that my prayer reaches heaven. Answers come. Blessings are received. There is peace and joy even in hard times." by President Henry B. Eyring
